Enjoy up to a $20,000 sign on bonus with this great opportunity to join a full service, state-of-the-art hospital facility with 145 licensed beds, including a 15 bed Acute Rehab unit, serving communities in Humboldt County for over 100 years. Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager/Director, the Charge Nurse is responsible for efficient patient flow within the unit, delegation of patient assignments, and provides support to caregivers aligning their level of training, experience, and the patient acuity. The Charge Nurse works in collaboration with medical providers and ancillary caregivers to ensure the quality of patient care. The Charge Nurse employs intellectual, interpersonal and technical skills using the nursing process to assist patients in achieving maximum health potential. Serving as the patients advocate, the Charge Nurse provides direct patient care, as needed, assumes responsibility and accountability for nursing care for patients of various ages as defined by the department scope of service. The Charge Nurse is a resource to ensure the implementation of the plan of care, adherence to policies and compliance with established standards of care/practice. The Charge Nurse may or may not provide input to caregiver performance and evaluations.

NOTE: The Charge Nurse for the Childbirth Center (CBC) is required to triage patients and ensure MSE is performed on all unscheduled outpatients.

Demonstrates competency in age specific skills for patients: neonate/infant, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric patients. Incorporates physical, motor/sensory adaptation, cognitive, psychosocial factors into the nursing process (e.g., behavior inconsistent with developmental stage, medications, educational needs, abuse/neglect, communication, etc.).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supervision:

Participates in interdepartmental and intradepartmental problem solving and collaboration. Serves as a positive, progressive, professional role model to nurse caregivers by actively participating in effective collaboration and operations.
Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate interpretation/communication or implementation of hospital-based values. Identifies breaches in standards of care, practice, and conduct, and addresses them effectively with staff involved. Resolves conflict in a direct, supportive manner with feedback to the Nurse Manager/Director. Provides input for caregiver performance and
evaluations.

Human Resources:

Maintains budget parameters for shift staffing, through monitoring and adjusting staff mix and number according to patient census and acuity. Controls overtime for the shift.
Welcomes, facilitates orientation, including checklist of new caregivers. Encourages individual caregivers to collaborate with Nurse Manager/Director in assessing and meeting identified educational needs of caregivers.

Ability to ensure patient confidence and comfort.
Competent in job responsibility through appropriate licensure, orientation, annual competencies, and annual evaluation.
Clearly and appropriately communicates with physicians, caregivers, families, and customers.
Reads, understands, and interprets physician orders, instructions, correspondence, memorandums and medical records.
Uses critical thinking and clinical judgment to problem solve.
Collaborates with caregivers and leadership on issues relating to personnel and clinical matters.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an accredited nursing school or proof of licensure by the State of California
Acute care with appropriate specialty expertise
State of California as a Registered Nurse
Current CPR certification
