Overview
For more than 70 years Mercy Medical Center Redding has offered comprehensive health care in the North State providing acute care and a full range of medical services. The 267-bed hospital offers major medical services including a Level II Trauma Center as well as specialized Cardiovascular Care Stroke Care Orthopedics Neurological Surgery Comprehensive Cancer Care Maternity Care and da Vinci Robotic Surgery. It is the sole provider of obstetrical services along with the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Shasta County. In addition the hospital's network of care includes Mercy Home Health and Hospice and Dignity Health Connected Living. Mercy Medical Center Redding is a member of the Dignity Health system and is a sister facility to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff and Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta. Responsibilities
The incumbent is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides for direct and indirect care to those patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment / instrumentation and other health care team members. -Responsibilities1 General.1.1 Performs routine physical/psychosocial assessment to collect basic data: follows the written plan of care, standards, practice guidelines, utilizes pathways.1.2 Formulates a plan of care for individual needs, including cultural/ethical/spiritual needs. Participates in the planning of routine transitional health care needs (i.e. treatment options, patient placement options.)1.3 Adapts planned educational programs and information to individual patients and family by modifying teaching strategies or content. Integrates education during the delivery of patient care.1.4 Ensures efficiency in the delivery of care to determine immediate priorities and to offer solutions for problems.1.5 Makes independent clinical decisions based on knowledge drawn from education and experience.1.6 Actively advocates for patient rights and identifies potential conflict. Seeks counsel for resolution of conflict.1.7 Monitors patient's progress toward expected outcomes and adjusts the plan of care accordingly1.8 Documents all patient care activities as per documentation standards. Assists the healthcare team with the documentation process.1.9 Respects and understands other clinical disciplines which includes use of an integrated approach toward patient outcomes.1.10 Delegates patient care activities to other health care team members and participates in making and revising staff assignments.1.11 Participates on unit teams, work groups, committees and/or quality improvement initiatives.1.12 Recognizes the need for continued education and consults with unit leadership to develop and implement educational goals which includes identifying leadership attributes.1.13 Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, preceptor and mentor.1.14 Identifies and seeks out members of the health care team as a resource to increase practice knowledge and seeks validation of clinical decisions from unit resources.1.15 Performs other related duties as assigned or requested in a professional manner.
Qualifications
REQUIRES:

  • Two years hospital inpatient oncology or outpatient chemotherapy experience required (may consider training if current staff skill set and experience allows)
  • AA degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing required
  • CA RN
  • BLS
  • Bio Chemotherapy Certification
  • Verbal and written communication skills and computer skills required.
  • Associates of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing,
  • Strong verbal, written and computer skills, Current BLS through AHA)PREFERS:
    • BS degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing preferred
    • ONS Chemotherapy Certification
