Developsregular work plans. Based on general instructions from thesupervisor, the employee works with the crew to prioritize,coordinate, and accomplish routine work for optimum safety andoperations, least adverse impact on landowners, the public, otheragencies, and customers whose activities or property may beinvolved, and fair utilization of personnel. Provides leadership toensure that the crew has clear work assignments and understands whatis expected of them. Provides on-the-job training in work methodsand practices. Identifies, secures, and/or coordinates material,personnel, and equipment needed for the timely performance ofrequired task.Linemen perform the following: Erect and repairtransmission/distribution power lines. Inspect electric powertransmission lines including steel towers and wood poles fromvehicles, on foot, or from aircraft. Inspect for damage to woodpoles, cross arms, grounds, X-braces, loose bolts, broken or flashedinsulators, missing or damaged vibration dampers, damaged or missingspacer dampers, damaged conductors or overhead ground wires, bent ormissing steel members, and missing cotter keys. Maintain records ofdeficiencies either on patrol sheets or electronically. Install andreplace poles, cross arms, line hardware, lightning arresters, fiberoptic, and auxiliary equipment. String conductor, optical groundwire (OPGW), and fiber optic cable from structure to structure;splice conductor when broken; replace poles; and work on energizedlines requiring the use of hotline tools and bare hand techniques.Repair requiring power outages are scheduled and coordinated byothers.
